Women's Track & Field Team to Make 1997 Home Debut
January 18 Michigan State Invitational 10:30 a.m. Jenison Field House
The Michigan State women's track and field team will make its 1997 home debut this weekend when it hosts the Michigan State Invitational. The meet will be held at Jenison Field House on Saturday, Jan. 18. The first field events begin at 10:30 a.m., while the running events get underway at 11 a.m.
In addition to Michigan State, the invitational will feature athletes from Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Southwestern Michigan.
The Spartans opened their 1997 season last weekend in Ann Arbor in a dual meet with Michigan and Indiana. MSU was defeated by Indiana, 74-39, and by Michigan, 79-34. Individually, the Spartans were led by senior Chandra Burns, who took top honors in the 400 meters with a time of 57.38, and the 200 meters with a clocking of 25.07. Senior Stephanie Dueringer finished second in the mile with a time of 5:01.22, while freshman Leah Nilsson took runner-up honors in the 3,000 meters (10:15.20).
