Jan. 24, 1997 Women's Track & Field to Host Michigan Intercollegiates

THIS WEEK Field events get underway at 10 a.m., while the first running event begins at noon. The meet wraps up at 3:10 p.m., with the 1,600-meter relay.
LAST WEEK The entire team contributed to the win with first-place finishes from five different team members as pair of Spartans finished in the top three in two events to lead the way. Senior Stephanie Dueringer (Champaign, Ill.) finished first in the mile run in a time of 5:05.30. She also took third-place in the 800-meter run (2:20.51). Right behind her was freshman Leah Nilsson (Williamston), placing second with a time of 5:09.30. Also contributing to the score was junior Beth Stover (West Worthington, Ohio) with her personal-best leap of 17 feet in the long jump. Participating in the triple jump, she took second place (34'04.75"). MSU notched the top three spots in the 400-meter dash, led by junior Lisa Holmes (Kalamazoo) first-place time of 59.03. Senior Lacrecia Tyus (Inkster) captured second-place in 59.76, while junior Shreatha McJunkins (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) crossed the finish line in 59.88, good for third place. New addition Laura Weaver (Fr.,Temperance) won the shot put with a mark of 40'2", while Kelley Kellis (Jr., Portage) placed second with a mark of 39'1 3/4". In the 3,000-meter run, MSU had five of the top six finishes. Junior Becky Caldwell (Wyandotte) placed first, crossing the finish line in 10:30.49. Senior Amy Hayes (Shelby) followed in a time of 10:32.26, taking second.
