The Michigan State track & field program has hired Blaine Maag as the new assistant coach for throwing events, as announced by director Walt Drenth on Tuesday. A former thrower at Ashland University, Maag spent the last two seasons coaching at Grand Valley State University under head coach Jerry Baltes.
Former Michigan State All-American Beth Rohl has been selected to train at the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., under coach Mac Wilkins. The New Buffalo, Mich., native will continue to throw discus while attending the Chula Vista OTC Residence Program with thousands of Olympic hopefuls.

Beth Rohl (discus) and Tori Franklin (triple jump) placed in the top-five of their events at the USA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, while Jellisa Westney placed in the top-10 in the 200-meter dash at the Canadian Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick.
