Melanie Rhoden is entering her fourth season as an assistant coach for the track & field program. She works with the Spartan sprinters, jumpers, and hurdlers.
During her time with the Spartans, Rhoden has helped a long list of athletes qualify for championship-level competition, including Kyron Foster, Katie Shaw, Erica Mann and Michelle Gay.
Rhoden spent three seasons at the College of New Jersey. During the 2006-2007 season, she served as an assistant coach, directing team practices and weight training. She also worked in home-meet management and assisted in scheduling, recruiting, fundraising and making travel arrangements.
She served the team as a graduate assistant from 2004-06 while earning her master of arts degree in counselor education. Rhoden was a scholarship runner on the track & field team at Villanova University, where she earned a bachelor of arts in human services in May 2004. Rhoden USATF Level 1 Certified Coach.
"Melanie brings experience as a hurdler, sprinter, and coach. Most importantly, she brings a genuine enthusiasm to her coaching and the sport of track & field," said director of track & field/cross county Walt Drenth. "During the job search, Melanie's name came up with a number of coaches I respect. She brings with her a reputation as a highly-talented and motivated young coach, and we are very fortunate to have her join our staff."
