Track & Field Finishes Action at Bob Eubanks Open

Allendale, Mich. - The Michigan State track & field team wrapped up action on Saturday at the Bob Eubanks Open at the Kelly Family Sports Center hosted by Grand Valley State University. At the end of day two, the Spartans finished with a combined 16 first-place performances which included three new meet records.
The Spartan men were led by Redshirt Sophomore Keenan Michael, who established a Bob Eubanks Open record in the 300-meter dash, finishing in 34.44. Michael also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in third with a time of 8.19. For the women, freshman Tori Franklin also established a new meet record in the triple jump with a mark of 12.74m / 41-09 ¾ while Jaelynn Pryor ran the 300-meter dash in a record 40.34.
In addition to Franklin, a number of Spartans were successful in their collegiate debuts. Freshman Jarred Gambrell notched victories in both the Triple Jump (14.90m / 48-10 ¾ ) and Long Jump (6.91m /22-08) while teammate DeVantré Whitelow won the Men's 200-meter dash (22.00). In mid-distance action, freshmen Brittany Lewis won the Women's 600-meter run in 1:32.7 while freshmen Austin Wissler took sixth-place in the Men's 600-meter run with a time of 1:21.01.
Closing out men's action, first-place finishes also came from Redshirt Senior Jay Gillespie in the weight throw (19.85m / 65-01 ½) who edged out teammate Lonnie Pugh (19.23m / 63-01 ¼ ). Junior Kurt Schneider took top honors in the high jump with a mark of 2.14m / 7-00 ¼.
MSU women dominated the high jump and 300-meter dash. School-record holder Becca Buchholtz took first in the high jump with a mark of 1.74m / 5-08 ½ while senior Jessica Scherting came in a close second with a jump of 1.71m / 5-07 ¼. The four top finishes in 300-meter dash all went to the green and white: Jaelynn Pryor (40.34, meet record), Noriah Williams (40.71), freshman Lindsey Seymour (40.81), and freshman LaMicah Hughbanks (41.50).
Additionally, the women's 4x400 relay team comprised of Alicia Evans, Jaelynn Pryor, TeJuanna Williams, and Alysson Bodenbach took the top spot with a time of 3:47.35. Bodenbach went on to take first in the 800-meter run (2:19:14) while Williams claimed second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.88.
Pan American Junior Championships Silver Medalist Ashley Stacey continued her streak of great performances in the long jump with a first-place leap of 5.62m / 18-05 ¼.
Redshirt Sophomore Amanda Impellizerri won the pole vault with a personal best 3.90m / 12-09 ½.
In the women's 60-meter hurdles, NCAA East Preliminary Round Qualifier Leslie Aririguzo placed first with a time of 8.49.
The Spartans continue their indoor season when members of the team will travel to the Notre Dame Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind. on January 21st.
