ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Michigan State track & field team opened action at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday, Feb. 11 with five first-place finishes. Emily MacLeod turned in winning time of 9:15.60 in the 3000-meter run, the fastest time recorded in the Big Ten this indoor season.

Yury Ratomski posted a pair of top-10 performances as he was fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.25 and first in the 200-meter dash with a 21.72 mark.

Amelia Bannister set the Laker Turf as well as the Big Meet record in the 600-meter run with a first-place time of 1:30.68.

Erica Mann turned in a time of 7.48 for first in the 60-meter dash to break the Big Meet record.

Winning the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:16.78 was Patrick Grosskopf.

Alysson Bodenbach turned in the second-fastest time in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.11. Jaelynn Pryor was 10th in the event when she crossed the finish in 56.74

Codi Mattix was second in the pole vault with a height of 5.10m. Sarah Birkmeier joined her teammate Mattix with a second-place showing on the women's side with a vault of 3.85m.

Spencer Beatty placed third in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:07.21. Beatty was joined by Aaron Simoneau in fifth (8:07.86), Joe Dimambro in ninth (8:19.26) and Ben Miller in 10th (8:20.78).

 

 

Carlie Green and Kristen Smith joined MacLeod with their fourth and fifth finishes, respectively. Green clocked in at 9:37.73 and Smith in 9:42.28.

Zack Hill placed third in the men's shot put with a toss of 18.01m.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Bannister, Mann, Bodenbach and Noriah Williams clocked in at 3:45.82 for third place.

The triple jump event saw a pair of fourth-place finishes for the Spartans. Amir Arif was fourth on the men's side with a 14.24m leap while Ashley Stacey was fourth on the women's with a 12.10m mark.

Also placing fourth was Joe Banyai in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.53.

Josh McAlary clocked in at 4:06.55 for fourth in the 1-mile run while Rebekah Smeltzer was fifth with a 4:52.75 mark.

Mann posted a time of 24.51 in the 200-meter dash to finish fourth. Leslie Aririguzo turned in a 10th-place time of 25.11 in the 200.

Jessica Scherting finished the pentathlon with a score of 3333 points, good enough for fourth. Scherting placed second in the pentathlon's high jump event with a 1.67m mark.

Fourth in the women's weight throw was Beth Rohl with a school-record toss of 20.44m. Rohl's mark is the longest ever recorded indoors at MSU by either gender.

The men saw both Lonnie Pugh and Anthony Agrusa tie for sixth with identical 19.83m marks. Brad Wentzel followed in ninth with a toss of 19.04m.

Stacey recorded her second fourth-place finish of the day when she turned in a leap of 5.77m in the long jump. Arif joined Stacey in the top 10 with his fifth-place leap (6.97m) while Kurt Schneider was sixth (6.93m)

Cliff Miller placed fifth overall in the pole vault with 4.95m mark. Derik Peterman was just behind Miller in sixth with his vault of 4.80m.

Kurt Schneider led MSU in the high jump with a fifth-place leap of 2.09m. Miller posted an identical score with Schneider, however Miller lost due to a jump-off. Kevin Jackson joined his teammates in seventh with a 2.04m leap.

Pryor clocked in a time of 9.02 in the 60-meter hurdles for ninth place.

The Spartans return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 12, when they close out action at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale.
