– The Spartans concluded weekend action at the famed Drake Relays with multiple competitors breaking the top ten within their prospective events.

Lonnie Pugh turned in the top performance of the day for the green and white, earning second place in the discus throw.  His effort of 56.16 meters (184-03) placed him just behind Tim Nedow of DePaul who threw for a distance of 58.30 meters.   Following his performance in the discus, Pugh would place seventh in the hammer throw (59.18m / 194-02) just one spot behind teammate Jay Gillespie in sixth (61.11m / 200-06).

Michigan State received another solid performance in the triple jump from Tori Franklin, who reached a personal-best outdoor mark of 12.96 meters (42-06 1/2).  Franklin’s distance placed her third behind Ciarra Brewer of Florida (1st, 13.12m / 43-00 ½) and Anna Weigandt of Nebraska (2nd, 13.04m / 42-09 ½).

On Friday, Amanda Impellizzeri placed eighth in the women’s pole vault with a height of 3.85 meters (12-07 ½), an effort to equal to her performance at the Jesse Owens Classic two weekends ago.

Senior Leslie Aririguzo placed third in the preliminaries of the women’s 100 meter hurdles, clocking in at 13.76.  She would compete in the finals of the event this earlier afternoon, placing seventh with a time of 13.93.
