Track & Field Concludes Action at Len Paddock Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - After action was postponed on Friday, the Michigan State track & field team wrapped-up competition at the Len Paddock Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan on Saturday, May 7. Competing unattached at Ferry Field was freshmen Zack Hill and Chris Hessell, as well as MSU track & field throws coach John Newell.
In the shot put, Hill took first-place honors with a toss of 17.88m. Hill's throw edged out Newell in second who turned in a distance of 17.79m.
Newell tossed a personal-best throw of 67.52m in the hammer throw. Newell's mark is a Ferry Field record and ranks him with the 18th-best distance in the nation this year.
Hessell competed in both the shot put and the hammer throw, turning in a distance of 42.78m in the shot put and 42.78m in the weight throw.
MSU will open championship season when it travels to Bloomington, Ind. for the Big Ten Championships hosted by Indiana University. Action begins on Friday, May 14, and continues until Sunday, May 16. Big Tens will be held at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex at E.C. "Billy" Hayes Track.
