Ashley Stacey Earns Silver in Long Jump at Pan American Junior Championships
Freshman finishes as top American in competition.

MIRAMAR, Fla. - Freshman Ashley Stacey of the Michigan State track & field team placed second in the long jump to earn a silver medal at the 2011 Pan American Junior Championships on Saturday, July 23. The Riverdale, Ill., native turned in a leap of 6.13m (20-1 ½) to finish as the top American in the competition.
Stacey started strong in second place with an opening leap of 5.62m. Her second leap of 5.96m kept her in her second overall, setting up her best leap of 6.13m on her third attempt. Stacey turned in another leap over 6.00m with her 6.08m on her fourth attempt before fouling her final two jumps.
Jessica Reis of Brazil placed first in the competition with a leap of 6.39m (20-11 ¾). Canada's Caroline Ehrhardt was third with a 5.92m leap.
The 2011 Big Ten indoor triple jump champion qualified for the Pan Am games after finishing second at the 2011 USATF Junior National Championships on June 24. Stacey turned in a leap of 6.21m (20-4 ½), finishing behind Jenna Prandini, who also represented USA at the Pan Am Junior Championships.
