EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State track & field redshirt senior Beth Rohl was named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, Jan. 21. Rohl had a record-setting day as she broke the facility and school record in the weight throw on Saturday at the Notre Dame Invitational.
After not surpassing the 21-meter mark in her career, Rohl made three throws over 21-meters to claim the win with a mark of 21.27m/69-9½. She also placed fourth in the shot put, posting a mark of 12.99m/42-7½. The performance puts her at No. 3 nationally in the weight throw in the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS).
This is the second Big Ten honor of Rohl’s career. The New Buffalo, Mich., native was selected as the 2011 Big Ten Athlete of the Year, becoming the first Spartan to ever be named Big Ten Athlete of the Year or Big Ten Athlete of the Championships in either field or track.
The Spartans continue their indoor season when they return to GVSU for a dual with in-state rival Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 26. at 6 p.m.
