MSU Track & Field head back to Notre Dame for the Meyo Invitational

Brittany Lewis ranks first in the NCAA in the 600m.

EAST LANSING, MICH. - The Spartan track and field team travels to South Bend, Ind., for the Meyo Invitational this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4, to compete in its fourth indoor event of the season. The meet begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. on Saturday, at the Loftus Sports Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.

Michigan State claimed five individual titles at the Indiana Invitational Relays last week.  On Friday,  freshman Brittany Lewis (Lambton Shores, Ont./St. Clair Secondary) broke the Canadian Junior Women's record in the 600m, claiming a win with a time of 1:29.96.  The time also ranks her first in the NCAA in that event.

Other victories came from Melanie Brender who placed first in the 3000m with a time of 9:55.90, Alicia Evans who won the 200 meter dash in 24.56, Antonio James in the men's shot put at 58-02 (17.73m), and Catherine Daniels in the weight throw (59-09 ½ / 18.22).

On Saturday, the Spartans had a recording-breaking performance in 4x400.  The women's relay team of Brittany Lewis, Amelia Bannister, Jaelynn Pryor and Alysson Bodenbach placed first with a time of 3:39.79.  The previous record of 3:40:46 was set in 1983.
