Spartans prep for Spire Invite/GVSU Big Meet

EAST LANSING, MICH. - The Michigan State track and field team travels back to Allendale, Mich. this weekend for the GVSU Big Meet and will also travel to Geneva, OH. for the Spire Invitational. The two-day event at GVSU begins on Friday at 10:00am at the Kelly Family Sports Center with multi-events beginning at 10:50am and running events at 12:30pm. Saturday action begins at 10:00am with the Men's Heptathlon.
At the Spire Invitational, all events will take place at the Spire Institute, with Friday action beginnning at 1:30pm. Saturday's events start at 10:00am.
Last weekend, the Spartans participated in the Meyo Invitational, earning eighteen top ten event finishes.
Standout performances included Kevin Jackson's high jump of 2.13m (6-11 3/4) which placed him third in amongst competition, Josh McAlary's fourth-place finish in the 1000m with a time of 2:24.34, and Carlie Green's third-place finish in the 3000m run (9:32.06).
The throwers traveled to Findlay, OH., last Saturday for the Findlay Indoor Track & Field Open. Junior Shatora Lewis placed first in the women's weight throw, throwing 20.00m (65-7 1/2), while teammates Catherine Daniels placed fourth (18.82m / 61-9) and Robyn Whalen placed sixth (18.34m / 60-2). Lewis also placed third in the shot put with a 14.89m effort.
On the men's side, senior Jay Gillespie placed fifth (21.32m / 69-11 1/2) in the weight throw.
