EAST LANSING, Mich. - Four Spartans will represent the Michigan State track & field program at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in College Station, Texas, as announced by the NCAA Monday night. Making the trip for the Spartans will be milers Shane Knoll (Warren, Mich.), Lisa Senakiewich (Davison, Mich.) and Emily MacLeod (Cincinnati, Ohio) and 400m standout Jeremy Orr (Detroit, Mich.). Competition will begin this Friday at 10 a.m. and resume on Saturday at noon.
Knoll ran the mile in a school-record 3:57.36 at the Meyo Invite, earning him the top seed at the NCAA Championships. He is only the second Spartan in school history to run a sub-four-minute mile. Joining Knoll on the men's side will be Orr, who has been a standout in the 400m dash all season. Orr's qualifying time of 41.46 earns him the 10th seed this weekend. Orr and Knoll are both first-time NCAA Indoor Championship qualifiers.
MacLeod and Senakiewich both qualified for the championships in the mile run. Senakieiwch holds the team's top time this season as she posted a school-record 4:40.91 at the GVSU Big Meet this season. That time earned her the 16th seed in the race this weekend. MacLeod ranks just behind her in the 17th spot with a time of 4:41.24, also set at the GVSU Big Meet. Similar to Knoll and Orr, MacLeod and Senakiewich are first-time qualifiers.
