EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State track & field program will continue the outdoor season as it hosts the 2013 Spartan Invitational this weekend. The only home meet of the season, the ninth-annual Invitational will include several teams from around the region with events held at Ralph Young Field, Munn Field and Jenison Field House. Admission is free to the meet and parking is located at the Spartan Stadium lot off of Shaw Road.

The hammer throw will be the sole event contested on Friday at Munn Field beginning at 2 p.m.  All running events will be held at the Ralph Young Field at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 6. Also on Saturday, the jump events will be held inside the Jenison Field House, while the discus and javelin will be held at Munn Field.

Distance running events on Saturday will now start at 9 a.m. All athletes entered with times equal to or slower than what is listed below will be in the morning sections:

Women's 5,000m - 18:28.88 (2 Sections)
Men's 5,000m - 15:15 (2 Sections)
Women's 1,500m - 4:49 (2 Sections)
Men's 1,500m - 3:59 (2 Sections)
Women's 800m - 2:19.84 (3 Sections)
Men's 800m - 1:55.50 (5 Sections)

Last Time Out
The Spartans kicked off the outdoor season with a successful meet at the Raleigh Relays last weekend. Redshirt sophomore Antonio James (shot put), redshirt senior Beth Rohl (discus), and sophomores Jaelynn Pryor (400m hurdles) and Tori Franklin (triple jump) each earned individual wins in their respective events. Michigan State also turned in a dozen top-three performances in addition to 11 personal records.

Climbing the Rankings
Michigan State currently has nine Spartans in the top-48 in the USTFCCCA national rankings, five women and four men. Leading the Spartans is Beth Rohl who is No. 4 in the country in the discus throw (56.85m/ 186-60) and 15th overall in the hammer (62.87m/ 206-3). Ranked eighth in the nation in the 3,000m steeplechase (10:03.40) is Leah O'Connor, while Jaelynn Pryor is 10th in the 400m hurdles (57.33). Tori Franklin is tied for 13th in the triple jump (13.07m/ 42-10) and Alysson Bodenbach is also tied for 40th in the 400m dash (53.63).  Also ranked nationally is the women's 4x400m relay (3:35.39) at No. 20.

Lonnie Pugh is the top-ranked Spartan on the men's side, sitting at No. 17 in the discus throw (58.39m/ 191-7). Ranked 34th in the 400m hurdles (51.44) is Keenan Michael, while Joe Banyai sits at 42nd in the 800m run (1:49.28). After his performance this past weekend, Caleb Rhynard is No. 43 in the 5,000m run (13:57.99).
