Men's Track Gets Ready for Spartan Invitational

Record Breaker: Freshman Paul Terek continues to rewrite the Michigan State pole vault record books. Terek, already MSU's indoor record holder in the pole vault, broke the schoolis outdoor record in that event with a vault of 16i9i. The bound was also good enough for Terek to take the title at Saturdayis Florida Relays in Gainsville, Fla. Ronald Carter set the previous Michigan State pole vault record of 16'3" in 1968.

All-American Performer: In the 5,000-meter event at the Florida Relays, Michigan State distance runner Jim Jurcevich showed his All-American form by winning the event in 14:10.99. The Spartans also received a seventh place finish by sophomore Joe Leo in the 5,000 with a time of 14:40.83. Chippini In: There were some other notable Performances for Michigan State at the Florida Relays. Senior sprinter Octavis Long finished 14th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.82. In the high jump competition, freshman Jeff Kus placed 12th with a leap of 6'5".
