April 29, 1998

HAVE A BLAST: The Spartan women's track and field team is headed to Toledo, Ohio this weekend to compete in the Toledo Invitational Saturday, May 2. The MSU team competed in last year's Toledo Invite but no team scores were recorded.

DRAKE RESULTS: MSU recorded its best 4x800-meter relay time of the season at last weekend's Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The Spartans team of seniors Karlene Kurtz and Becky Caldwell, and juniors Carmen Suchomski and Karyn Duba placed 11th in the race with a time of 9:18.07. Sophomore distance runner Jen Denkins also recorded a season best for the Spartans. She set her mark in the 10,000-meter finishing 17th with a time of 37:24.82.

The Green and White's pole vaulting unit continues to shine because of freshmen Jeannette Martus and Katie Meyer. Martus took 12th in the event with a vault of 10'4", which is the second highest for Michigan State this season, and Meyer finished in 15th place with a leap of 9' 10".
