June 3, 2010
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State track & field redshirt junior Anthony Agrusa has been selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today. Agrusa is now eligible to be named an Academic All-American with the recognition.
Agrusa looks to become the first Spartan since 2005, and second all-time, to be recognized with Academic All-America honors when Nathan Egger received third-team distinction.
The St. Clair Shores, Mich., native, currently boasts a 3.81 GPA in human biology.
Earlier this year Agrusa placed fifth at the 2010 Big Ten Championships in the discus with a toss of 51.56m. He was also sixth in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 59.25m - the second-best distance in school history.
As a result of his performance this season, Agrusa was one of 26 qualifiers for the Green and White at the 2010 NCAA Opening Rounds, qualifying in both the discus throw and hammer throw. Agrusa placed 18th at the preliminary rounds in the discus with a toss of 58.61m, far exceeding his regional seeding (43rd).
