Cross Country Shows Well at Home Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Spartan Invitational on Friday, their only home meet of the fall season. The women's team took seven of the top eight spots, paced by standout Nicole Bush. On the men's side, Michigan and Michigan State held down the top 12 spots, and junior Spencer Beatty was the top finisher.
The competitiors were greeted with intermittent downpour and incredibly humid conditions. More than 3,000 runners spanning in age from college to middle school competed today at the Forest Acres East course.
Bush, a senior, had an impressive showing in a time of 21:12, which was 25 seconds ahead of classmate Lisa Senakiewich. (21:37). Emily McLeod was third, (21:41). Laura Neufarth was the first non-Spartan to cross the line, as she was fourth in 21:45; she was followed by four Spartan harriers: Sarah Price (fifth, 21:48), Tiffany Abrahamian (sixth, 21:52), Emily Langenberg (seventh, 21:55), and Carlie Green (21:57). Two Miami runners were next, followed by MSU's Ashley Casavant in 11th (22:02).
Michigan paced the field in the men's race with the top four runners, including winner Craian Olinard (24:44). Four MSU runners finished in a pack right after, as Beatty's time of 25:12 was fifth overall, followed by senior Adam Sprangel (25:14). Michigan's Peter Christmas was seventh, with MSU's Joseph Dimambro (25;22) and Shane Knoll (25:22) in eighth and ninth. Max Goldak (25:34), Isaiah Vandoorne (25:35) and Patrick Grosskopf (25:35) finished 14th-16th.
