EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State cross country program completed its regular season on Friday, Oct. 19 at the EMU Fall Classic in Dexter, Mich. The non-scored event was MSU's last race before the final three races of the season - the Big Ten Championships, the NCAA Great Lakes Regional and the NCAA Championships.
"It went really well," said assistant coach Lisa Senakiewich. "I thought everyone had a really solid performance, everyone competed really well. This meet shows us that our entire team is in the right place. That's the sort of momentum you want to go into the Big Ten Championships."
The event started with the women's 5,000-meter race. True freshman Alexa Rumsey, running unattached, placed third and crossed the finish line in 18.09. Close behind was sophomore Melanie Brender was the top MSU finisher with a time of 18:16. 30, good for fifth place.
"Melanie Brender was our top finisher in uniform and she did a really great job," said Senakiewich. "Meggan and Abbey had really great races, they competed well and were solid."
