Cross Country Teams Both Rank Top-30 In Preseason Polls
Women top Great Lakes Region, Men fifth in region.

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's and women's cross country teams both enter the 2013 season ranked in the top-30 in the National Coaches Poll, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Tuesday. MSU is one of 15 schools with both teams ranked in the top-30.
The women lead the Great Lakes Regional rankings, after the team finished second at the 2012 Regional Championships. Nationally, MSU sits at No. 13 heading into the season. It marks the 13th-straight year that the women placed in the top-30 in the preseason rankings.
On the men's side, the Spartans rank fifth in the region after placing fourth overall at the Regional Championships in 2012. For the first time since 2010, the men's team broke into the national preseason rankings at No. 30.
MSU is one of 15 schools with both teams ranked in the top-30. Both teams are among only four Big Ten programs that were ranked nationally.
The Spartans officially kick off the 2013 season as they travel to the Jeff Drenth Memorial on Friday, Aug. 30. The meet, hosted by Central Michigan, will begin with the women's 5K race at 10 a.m. followed by the men's 5k race at 10:45 a.m.
