EAST LANSING, Mich. - After a weekend off, the Michigan State cross country team will make the short trip to Hillsdale College on Friday for the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships. The meet will held at Hayden Park on the campus of Hillsdale College and is set to begin at 4 p.m.

In the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) weekly poll, the women moved up to ninth after their strong performance at the Roy Griak Invitational. Regionally, the women continue to sit at the top of the Great Lakes Region standings for the fourth-straight week.
On the men's side, MSU is receiving votes in the national coaches' poll and is holding onto fifth in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes regional rankings.
Last Time Out
The Spartans turned in a collectively-strong performance at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 28 in Minneapolis, Minn. The women finished second overall with 72 points, while the men earned a sixth place team finish with 219 points.
The first Spartan to cross the finish line in the women's 6K was Rachele Schulist, who clocked a time of 21:07 to place ninth overall. Leah O'Connor was close behind, finishing 12th with a time of 21:15, followed by Katie Landwehr in 13th with a time of 21:19. Rounding out the top-20 finishes for MSU was Shelby Jackson (21:21) and Lindsay Clark (21:23), who placed 18th and 20th, respectively.
On the men's side, Caleb Rhynard placed eighth overall with a time of 24:40 as the top-finisher for MSU. Next to cross for the Spartans was Ben Carruthers with a time of 25:11 for to place 44th, while David Madrigal finished 45th with a time of 25:12. Also placing in the top-50 was Nick Soter, clocking a time of 25:34.
Crossing the finish line first for the MSU women at the Roy Griak Invitational, redshirt freshman Rachele Schulist was named Big Ten Cross Country Co-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 1. Her ninth-place time of 21:07 in the women's 6,000-meter race helped lead her team to a runner-up team finish among a field of 28 teams, 10 of which were ranked in the top-30 of the USTFCCCA poll.
Redshirt junior Leah O'Connor and redshirt sophomore Caleb Rhynard of the Michigan State cross country team swept the Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors on Sept. 17. Both individuals earned their first weekly honors after finishing tops for the Spartans with an outstanding first race of the season when MSU hosted the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational.
The Spartans will continue competition as the team travels to the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19.
