Grosskopf Selected to NCAA Cross Country Championships
Nov. 14, 2010
EAST LANSING, Mich. - As announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee today, Michigan State senior Patrick Grosskopf has been selected as an individual for the 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Monday, Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Grosskopf receives the bid after being one of the top-five runners in the region not associated with an NCAA qualifying team. Grosskopf turned in a 13th-place time of 30:39.1 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional yesterday (Nov. 13) in Rochester, Mich.
At the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Championships, Grosskopf was the second-fastest Spartan on the day with his time of 31:25.7, good enough for 125th overall.
Grosskopf gives MSU representation in the men's race for the second-consecutive year after the men qualified as a team in 2009. This is the first time since 2001 and 2002 the men have had a runner in the season-ending race in back-to-back seasons.
The Corunna, Mich., native, joins the women's team who automatically qualified for the championships with their regional win on Saturday. The women will be making their 12th-consecutive NCAA Championships appearance, and 19th overall.
