2017 (JUNIOR): Earned second-team All-Big Ten honors ... Voted co-recipient of the John Kobs Most Valuable Player team award ... Also voted as the Kirk Gibson Offensive Player of the Year and the Danny Litwhiler Defensive Player of the Year for MSU ... Led the B1G and ranked seventh in the NCAA with 30 stolen bases, setting a new MSU single-season record ... Also led the B1G and ranks third in NCAA with 0.63 stolen bases per game ... Hughes started in 48 games this season ... Hit three home runs at Illinois on March 26, including two left-handed and one right-handed, becoming just one of three players in the NCAA to hit a home run from each side of the plate this season ... Was named Collegiate Baseball’s National Players Of The Week as well as a USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Gold Standard Performance of the Week on March 26 for his performance at Illinois ... Also led the B1G for most RBI in a single-game with seven vs. Illinois on March 26 as part of his three home run performance ... Was tied for eighth in the B1G with five HR in conference games ... Finished season with a .330 batting average, which was second on MSU and tied for 12th in the B1G, and was also tied for ninth in the league with 67 hits ... Had an MSU season-best 15-game hit streak from April 26 - May 19, snapped in the season finale, but did draw a walk in that game to finish season with a 16-game on base streak ... 2015 (FRESHMAN): Voted to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team ... Posted a .280 batting average and 27 RBIs ... His six home runs tied for second on the team and were tops among rookie outfielders in the conference ... Hit .312 in Big Ten play ... Saw the most action of any Spartan freshman, appearing in 56 games with 55 starts ... Made seven appearances on the mound totaling 6.1 innings, finishing the season with a 7.11 ERA ... Finished the season with hits in 15 of 17 games and 24 of the final 27 ... Recorded two RBIs and a double vs. New Mexico (2/13) in his collegiate debut ... Walked twice and had a RBI vs. Oregon State (2/14) ... Went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double in a win over Clemson on March 11 ... Homered for the first time in his areer against Furman (3/14) ... Recorded an eight game hitting streak from March 21 to April 1 ... Went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run and four RBI at Rutgers on April 18 ... Had a hit in every game in five of eight conference series.
HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year letterwinner for Coach Joe Emanuele at Sterling Heights Stevenson ... Garnered first-team all-state, all-region, all-league and all-district honors as a junior and senior; Batted .386 with 22 RBIs and seven extra-base hits, while also compiling a 1.85 ERA in 11.1 innings on the mound during his junior campaign ... Second-team all-state selection as a pitcher during his sophomore campaign in addition to all-region and all-district accolades ... Helped Stevenson to the high school state finals as a freshman (31-7) and junior (28-9) ... Senior team captain for both baseball and basketball ...
