Scouting Ewert: Outstanding athlete with a live arm...developing secondary stuff to compliment his upper-80s fastball...will also see time as a utility player while providing depth in the outfield and corner infield positions...will compete for a starting role on the mound and will also play a prominent role in the bullpen.

2006: Made 11 appearances on the mound, 10 as a reliever and one as a starter...compiled a 2-1 record with a 8.59 ERA in 22.0 innings of work...pitched four innings of solid relief in getting the win over Seton Hall (3/9), scattering five hits and two runs with three strikeouts...earned second win of the season by hurling 3.2 innings against Indiana (3/31), allowing three runs and scattering seven hits...fanned three in 2.2 innings of work against Western Michigan (4/12)...struck out two in one inning vs. Toledo (4/26) his lone start of the year, he surrendered six runs on six hits in 4.0 innings in loss at Central Michigan (5/16) the plate, he batted .211 with eight hits, three doubles and two RBI in 38 at-bats...scored six runs and walked five times...recorded first collegiate hit against Kentucky as he went 2-for-3 against the Wildcats (2/26)...went 3-for-4 with career-high three runs scored and two RBI vs. Lehigh (3/6)...hit a double and scored a run against Rhode Island (3/11)...collected a hit and scored a run vs. Western Illinois (3/26)...tallied a double vs. Grand Valley State (3/29).

High School: Earned four varsity letters...batted .430 and compiled a 10-1 record with a 2.10 ERA his senior year, helping guide Crystal Lake to a school-record 33 wins and a fourth-place state ranking in 2005...named Northwest Herald Player of the Year...also named all-area, all-conference and third-team all-state...named second-team all-state by The Truth Prep a junior, was named all-area and all-conference...earned two letters in basketball...captained both the basketball and baseball teams his senior year...four-year honor roll member.

Personal: Born Oct. 31, 1986, to Bill and Cindy Ewert...undecided on a major...enjoys skiing, basketball, biking and running...favorite team is the Atlanta Braves... favorite player is Chipper Jones...lists high school coach Jeff Aldridge and his father as his biggest baseball influences...earned a spot on the MSU baseball "Top 9 Club" for the second year in a row...pitched for the New Market (Va.) Rebels in the Valley League in summer of 2006 and helped lead them to the league title...will pitch for the Bethesda Big Train in the Cal Ripken League in the summer of 2007.
