Cory Mee begins his fourth season as an assistant coach at Michigan State. He is responsibile for instructing the Spartan hitters and catchers.

Last season, Mee helped the Spartans post 38 wins, the most at MSU since 1994. Under his direction, the Spartan offense made its mark in the record books. The team posted a .301 batting average and cracked the all-time top ten list in five offensive categories, including hits (4th-542), runs (6th-353), RBI’s (6th-324), doubles (3rd-99) and home runs (10th-39). In addition, Mee helped Bob Malek break the all-time single season hits record at MSU with 88 hits on the season. In the process, Malek became a third team All-America selection. Another item to note; Rick Court became the fifth catcher coached by Mee to sign a professional contract, when he signed with the Gateway Grizzlies of the independent Frontier League following the 2001 season.

Prior to his stint at MSU, Mee spent five years as an assistant baseball coach at the University of Notre Dame. Under Mee’s direction, Irish hitters posted impressive numbers. All five of his squads posted team averages of .304 or higher, while averaging 65 home runs per season. In his five seasons, Mee tutored 14 players who signed professionally, including four catchers. During his 10 years at UND as a player and coach, the Fighting Irish reached the 40-win plateau every year and participated in five NCAA regional tournaments.

A native of Hilton, N.Y., Mee was a four-year starter at Notre Dame from 1989-92. He played third base, catcher and second base during his career. In 1992, Mee graduated from Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and was named First Team GTE Academic All-American. After graduation, he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and played minor league baseball for the Yakima Bears in the Northwest League. In 1993, he returned to his alma mater as a volunteer assistant, helping the Irish reach the NCAA regional tournament. He then spent one year at the Rochester Institute of Technology as an assistant coach before accepting the full-time coaching position at Notre Dame.

Mee and his wife, Susan, have two daughters, Reilly (2) and McKenna (8 mos.).
