COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Spartans fell to Ohio State in the second game of the series on Saturday afternoon at Bill Davis Stadium, 8-3. The Buckeyes (16-7, 4-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first two innings and MSU couldn't make up the deficit. Michigan State had its eight-game winning streak snapped and moves to 14-8 on the season and 1-1 in the Big Ten.
Ohio State scored two runs in the first and added two more in the second inning off an RBI single and a fielder's choice that sent one Buckeye home. OSU had six hits in the first two innings to take the lead.
The Buckeyes added one in the fourth to make it 5-2 but Richardson scored for MSU on a wild pitch in the fifth. However, it wasn't enough for the Spartans as they failed to score another run after the fifth.
Ohio State added one run in the bottom of the fifth, seventh and eighth innings and had 12 hits in the game.
Junior starter David Garner took his first loss of the season, he threw 6 2/3 innings, gave up 11 hits and seven runs, four of which were earned. Mike Mestdagh relieved Garner; he gave up one run in 1 1/3 innings.
Michigan State and the Buckeyes will play the series finale tomorrow at 1:05 p.m.
