Rosemont, Ill. - The Big Ten released its annual baseball preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday and the Spartans were selected to finish fourth. The conference coaches voted on the top six teams and also selected three players from their own squads to a Players to Watch list.

Indiana was chosen first in the preseason poll, followed by Nebraska, Ohio State, MSU, Illinois and Michigan.

Sophomore starting pitcher Justin Alleman, sophomore outfielder Cam Gibson and junior outfielder Jimmy Pickens were tabbed the Spartans' Big Ten Players to Watch. Pickens was a second-team All-Conference selection last year, while Gibson earned a spot on the Big Ten's All-Freshman Team.

The Spartans are coming off their fourth consecutive 30-win season as they went 33-17 a year ago.

Michigan State will open then 2014 season this weekend when it travels to Cary, N.C., for four games. On Friday, MSU will meet Monmouth, followed by UMass-Lowell and Wright State on Saturday. MSU will wrap up its four-game weekend vs. Canisius on Sunday.
