Iowa Defeats MSU Baseball

Spartans loses 9-1 in series finale.

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Iowa used a 16-hit barrage to defeat Michigan State, 9-1, in the series finale of a four-game set in Iowa City on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, MSU drops below the .500 mark at 10-11, 1-3 in the conference. Iowa now stands at 9-6, 3-1.

Kimya Massey (1-2) started strongly on the hill for the Spartans, but the Iowa offense broke open the game with three runs in the fifth inning. Jeremy Meccage (2-1) went 5.2 innings for the Hawkeyes to pick up Iowa's third win of the series.

Tom Grigg played solid for the Spartans, rapping out three of MSU's seven base hits. MSU scored its lone run in the sixth, as Mike Pisani walked with the bases loaded to put the Spartans on the board.

The Spartans hope a little home cooking gets them back on track, as they host Central Michigan on Tuesday, Mar. 31, at Kobs Field. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
