"Our guys are real excited to play in the Crosstown Showdown," said MSU head coach Jake Boss. "For me and my coaching career, that's one of the thrills that I've had, to be able to coach in this game. It's a lot of fun and it's great for the community. (Lansing General Manager) Pat Day and the Lugnuts do a great job of promoting it; they're a first-class organization. It's a highlight on our schedule and something that everyone is looking forward to."
The exhibition game will be nine innings and the Spartans will use wooden bats.
The Crosstown Showdown has drawn record crowds, including a stadium-record 12,992 fans for the 2009 game in which the Spartans won, 12-2. The annual event began in 2007.
The Lansing Lugnuts are a Class A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays and play in the Midwest League.
