EAST LANSING - Michigan State pitcher Cam Vieaux has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday, April 14. The award is the second of the season for Vieaux, who also garnered the accolade on March 31.
Vieaux had his best start of the season in game two of Saturday's doubleheader vs. Purdue, tossing his first-career complete game in a 2-1 victory. The native of Novi surrendered his only run in the second inning before allowing just two hits the rest of the game and retiring the final 10 batters he faced. Vieaux struck out six batters and didn't issue a walk as he lowered his ERA to 1.62, which is tied for the conference lead.
Opponents are hitting just .206 off Vieaux this season, which ranks third best in the conference. The lefty has started each of the last four games in which he has appeared and is 5-2 on the season.
