Spartan Baseball Gameday: Indiana
May 24, 2012
COLUMBUS, Ohio - After defeating Nebraska in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday, 10-9, the Michigan State baseball team (36-19) will take on second-seeded Indiana (30-26) in the second round Thursday at 3:35 p.m. Junior right-hander Andrew Waszak will get the start on the mound for MSU. The Spartans won a road series at Indiana in mid-April, but the Hoosiers have been hot as of late, winning six straight to close the regular season. IU swept Ohio State last weekend to earn the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament with a 16-8 league record, just one game back of regular-season champion Purdue. Waszak was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career following his performance at Indiana on April 15. Waszak threw seven shutout innings against the Hoosiers and allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out a season-high five. DeNato (7-3) gave up two runs and seven hits in seven innings against the Spartans in a no decision on April 13 in the first game of the series, a 3-2 walk-off win for Indiana. MSU followed with a doubleheader sweep on April 15, winning 6-0 and 20-10. The Spartans collected a season-high 25 hits in the game two victory. Thursday's game is being televised on BTN and Gametracker will be available on msuspartans.com.
