Baseball Adds Three to 2013 Roster

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State baseball head coach Jake Boss announced Friday that three more student-athletes will join the Spartan program for the 2013 season - LHP Josh Buchalski (Midland, Mich./Nouvel Catholic Central), LHP Ryan Hudspeth (St. Charles, Ill./Elgin Community College) and OF Hunter Smith (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg High School) - bringing the recruiting class to a total of nine players. Buchalski, Hudspeth and Smith will join Justin Alleman (Holt, Mich./Holt High School), Cam Gibson (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South High School), Anthony Misiewicz (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay High School), PJ Nowak (Plymouth, Mich./Phillips Andover (Mass.) Academy), Alex Rapanos (Midland, Mich./Midland High School) and Ryan Richardson (South Elgin, Ill./Elgin Community College), who announced last November they would be attending Michigan State. Hunter Smith Perrysburg, Ohio Perrysburg High School 6-4 215 L/R OF Two-year letterwinner under Coach Dave Hall at Perrysburg High School . . . led the Northern Lakes League his senior year with seven home runs . . . also compiled a .344 batting average and drove in a team-high 25 runs to go along with 38 runs and 13 stolen bases this spring . . . posted an OPS of 1.077 (.644 slugging percentage and .433 on-base percentage) . . . first-team all-state, all-district, all-county and all-league selection in 2012 . . . was a team captain as a senior . . . helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a Division I state runner-up finish and a 26-4 record as a junior in 2011 . . . hit a home run in the state semifinals at Huntington Park in Columbus to help lead Perrysburg to the state championship game . . . all-district, all-league and all-county selection in 2011 . . . played in the Mizuno All-Ohio Series and the Heartland Classic last summer . . . and also played football for three seasons and golf for two seasons in high school . . . chose Michigan State over several schools, including Arizona State, Pepperdine, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Toledo and Miami-Ohio . . . son of Rick and Jill Smith . . . his father, Rick, was recently inducted into the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame . . . born Dec. 30, 1993. |
