EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State baseball head coach Jake Boss announced Friday that three more student-athletes will join the Spartan program for the 2013 season - LHP Josh Buchalski (Midland, Mich./Nouvel Catholic Central), LHP Ryan Hudspeth (St. Charles, Ill./Elgin Community College) and OF Hunter Smith (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg High School) - bringing the recruiting class to a total of nine players.
Buchalski, Hudspeth and Smith will join Justin Alleman (Holt, Mich./Holt High School), Cam Gibson (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South High School), Anthony Misiewicz (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay High School), PJ Nowak (Plymouth, Mich./Phillips Andover (Mass.) Academy), Alex Rapanos (Midland, Mich./Midland High School) and Ryan Richardson (South Elgin, Ill./Elgin Community College), who announced last November they would be attending Michigan State.

Josh Buchalski Midland, Mich. Nouvel Catholic Central 5-10 150 L/L LHP
Four-year letterwinner under Coach Dave Horny at Nouvel Catholic Central (2009-12) . . . two-year captain . . . helped the Panthers to Division 3 district title last Saturday . . . earned all-region honors and Academic All-State honors as a junior in 2011 . . . also a three-year letterwinner in basketball as a point guard and a two-year letterwinner in football as a defensive back and wide receiver . . . helped lead Nouvel to the 2011 Division 7 football state title his senior season . . . honorable mention Academic All-State in football his senior year . . . son of Don and Chris Buchalski . . . his twin brother, Joe, will pitch at Oakland University next season . . . born Nov. 29, 1993.
Ryan Hudspeth St. Charles, Ill. Elgin Community College 6-2 200 L/L LHP
Has spent the past two seasons playing for Elgin (Ill.) Community College under Coach Bill Angelo . . . was a team captain this season and helped lead ECC to a 32-19 record . . . was 3-1 with 31 strikeouts in 53 2/3 innings pitched . . . in 2011, helped guide ECC to a 41-16 record and the sectional championship while going 6-1 on the mound in 44 2/3 innings with 40 strikeouts . . . named to the Midwest Collegiate League all-star team last summer while pitching for the Chicago Zephyrs . . . was a two-year letterwinner (2009-10) at St. Charles North High School under Coach Todd Genke . . . was a two-time UpState Eight all-conference selection . . . also named to the all-area team his senior year . . . set a school record for most wins (13) as a two-year starter . . . helped St. Charles to a school record 33 wins his senior year along with conference and regional championships . . . attended the same high school that produced former Spartan and 2011 Big Ten Player of the Year Jeff Holm and also fellow incoming signee Ryan Richardson, who also played for Elgin Community College . . . was a member of the 2009 17-under team (Top Tier) that won the Continental Amateur Baseball Association (CABA) World Series . . . son of John and Belynda Hudspeth, both of whom attended Michigan State . . . born Feb. 14, 1992.
Hunter Smith Perrysburg, Ohio Perrysburg High School 6-4 215 L/R OF
Two-year letterwinner under Coach Dave Hall at Perrysburg High School . . . led the Northern Lakes League his senior year with seven home runs . . . also compiled a .344 batting average and drove in a team-high 25 runs to go along with 38 runs and 13 stolen bases this spring . . . posted an OPS of 1.077 (.644 slugging percentage and .433 on-base percentage) . . . first-team all-state, all-district, all-county and all-league selection in 2012 . . . was a team captain as a senior . . . helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a Division I state runner-up finish and a 26-4 record as a junior in 2011 . . . hit a home run in the state semifinals at Huntington Park in Columbus to help lead Perrysburg to the state championship game . . . all-district, all-league and all-county selection in 2011 . . . played in the Mizuno All-Ohio Series and the Heartland Classic last summer . . . and also played football for three seasons and golf for two seasons in high school . . . chose Michigan State over several schools, including Arizona State, Pepperdine, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Toledo and Miami-Ohio . . . son of Rick and Jill Smith . . . his father, Rick, was recently inducted into the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame . . . born Dec. 30, 1993.
