DETROIT - Four incoming Spartan freshmen played in the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association (MHSBCA) East-West All-Star Game at Comerica Park on Tuesday night.
Outfielder Cam Gibson (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South High School) and left-handed pitcher Anthony Misiewicz (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay High School) played for the East Team, while right-handed pitcher/infielder Justin Alleman (Holt, Mich./Holt High School) and infielder Alex Rapanos (Midland, Mich./Midland High School) played for the West.
All four players signed National Letters of Intent with the Spartans in November 2011.
Rapanos collected two hits and a walk in the game, including a two-run triple, to earn MVP honors for the West, who won 16-6.
Alleman started for the West and struck out four batters in his two innings. Prior to the game, Alleman was publicly recognized for winning the MHSBCA Mr. Baseball Award, which he shared with Alex Daar of Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett.
Drafted in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft earlier this month by the Kansas City Royals, Alleman recorded a 9-0 record and a 0.57 ERA for Holt this season with 133 strikeouts. He also drove in 31 runs at the plate.
Gibson was also selected in the MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks (38th round).
