EAST LANSING, Michigan - Michigan State incoming freshman Zack McGuire has been named the state's Mr. Baseball for 2014 by the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association, it was announced by the organization.

McGuire was a force both on the mound and at the plate for Sterling Heights Stevenson this past spring. Offensively, he hit .443 with 18 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 52 RBIs. On the mound, the righty had a perfect 8-0 record with a miniscule 1.33 ERA as the team's No. 1 starter.

In helping lead Stevenson to the Macomb Area Conference Red Division championship and a district title, McGuire was named MLive's Detroit Player of the Year. In addition to taking part in the MHSBCA All-Star Game at Comerica Park on July 10, he was also voted to the MHSBCA Dream Team as an outfielder.

McGuire is one of nine incoming freshmen that will join the Spartans this fall.
