EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State baseball was recognized with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award.
Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with the award, which recognizes teams coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2016-17 academic year. In total, 221 programs were recognized with the 2016-17 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, including 70 high school programs and 60 teams from NCAA Division III.
Michigan State had a 3.22 GPA this year, which is the highest in program history. The Spartans are one of two Big Ten teams on the 36-team list for NCAA Division I teams, joined by Minnesota.
This is MSU baseball’s second academic accolade, as earlier this spring, Michigan State led the Big Ten by having 19 players earn Academic All-Big Ten honors.
