The Michigan State baseball team begins its third annual Green and White World Series at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kobs Field, the on-campus home of the Spartans. Admission to all three games of the intra-squad series is free to the public.

The first two games will be six-inning contests, while game three will be the deciding game and will last five innings.

The series will be best-of-three. However, if one team loses the first two games, it may still win the championship by winning the final game by the run differential of the first two contests (e.g., if run differential combined is four runs for games one and two, then five runs wins the series).

The Green will be coached by assistant coach Tony Baldwin, while the White will be led by volunteer assistant coach Tom Lipari. Coach Lipari won the coin flip and has chosen to be the home team in games one and three. Coach Baldwin won the coin flip and has chosen the third base dugout as his dugout of choice for those same two contests.

Each team's roster consists of 15 players. The Green team has four seniors, including MSU's leading hitter in 2007, Steve Gerstenberger. The infielder from Fort Gratiot, Mich., batted .368 in 2007 with three home runs and 31 RBI. Seven seniors highlight the White roster, led by outfielder/infielder Dennis Jones, who batted .322 with a team-leading 36 RBI.
