Oct. 12, 2007
A three-run bottom of the second inning gave spurred the White to victory in the third decisive game of the Green-White World Series, 4-0, Friday at Kobs Field. Freshman A.J. Achter threw four scoreless innings for the White, who won the fall intrasquad series under first-year assistant coach Tom Lipari. The White plated its first run when a bases-loaded walk by junior A.J. Shindler scored freshman Andy Johnson from third. The very next batter, senior Justin Potes, lifted what could have been the third out of the inning on a fly ball to centerfield, but the ball was dropped and senior Kyle Kunkel came in to score to make it 2-0. Freshman Brandon Eckerle then drove in senior Dennis Jones with a single to center to push the lead to 3-0. Kunkel drove in senior Tony Clausen with an RBI double to right-center to provide the final margin.
Achter allowed just one hit and struck out three in his four innings of work. Junior A.J. Dunn worked the fifth and final inning of the scrimmage, allowing a hit and fanning one.
