EAST LANSING - The Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) has named Kobs Field at McLane Stadium the Field of the Year. The STMA's Field of the Year Award is given to members who manage baseball, football, softball, soccer and other sporting grounds at the professional, collegiate or schools (K-12) and parks levels. Amy Fouty, Michigan State's Sports Turf Manager, oversees Kobs Field.
"Congratulations to Amy Fouty, Jared Knoodle and the entire Kobs Field grounds crew on a job well done," said MSU baseball head coach Jake Boss Jr. "Many people claim to have the best field in the country, but now there is something tangible that definitively states that Kobs Field is the best collegiate field in the nation. We take great pride in our baseball facilities, especially our natural grass playing surface, and we are all extremely happy for Amy and her staff to have this honor and recognition bestowed upon them. It is well deserved."
A panel of 16 judges independently scored entries based on playability, appearance of surfaces, utilization of innovative solutions, effective use of budget and implementation of a comprehensive agronomic program. Judges may not award a field in each category. Winning fields will be featured in a 2014 issue of Sports Turf Magazine.
Awards will be presented at the 25th STMA Conference & Exhibition in San Antonio, Tex. Jan. 21-24, 2014.
The STMA has been sponsoring the Field of the Year Awards since 1992.
