Izzo and Big Ten Basketball All-Stars Depart for Europe
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- With three days of practice under their belts, Michigan State Head Basketball Coach Tom Izzo and the Big Ten Basketball All-Star Team depart for Europe this afternoon where they will play a seven-game tour in England, France and Belgium.
The Big Ten All-Star Team began preparation for its trip on Monday (Aug. 4) and completed its practice sessions in the USA with a crisp 90-minute workout this morning. According to Izzo, the efforts turned in by the 12-man squad have been good with everybody looking forward to the trip.
"All in all, the practices have gone well and the players have been very attentive," stated Izzo. "This has been a great group of guys to work with. The team has picked up what we have put in for the tour and we are looking forward to getting started.
"The competition will be very good with the some of our opponents playing in pro leagues. Also, we wind up the tour in Belgium where we will play in a tournament, so that also promises to be a very competitive situation."
The Big Ten All-Stars' first game will be August 8 against the Derby Storm, a member of the Budweiser Pro League, at Stevenage, England. Following that contest, the team's next game will be on August 9 vs. the London Leopards, the defending champion of the Budweiser League.
