Big Ten Men's Basketball All-Star Team Runs Record to 2-0

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Led by three double-figure scorers, the Big Ten Basketball All-Stars ran its record to 2-0 Saturday afternoon with a 94-82 win over the Sheffield Sharks.

Michigan's Jerod Ward paced the scoring attack for the Big Ten team with 25 points while Michigan State's David Thomas and Iowa's Ryan Bowen rounded out the double-figure point producers with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Bowen also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for the Big Ten squad which held a decided 55-23 advantage on the boards. Indiana guard Michael Lewis also turned in a solid outing with seven points, six assists and four steals.

The Big Ten All-Stars opened its seven-game tour with a 96-64 triumph over the Derby Stars on Friday afternoon. Pacing the Big Ten in that contest was DuJuan Wiley of Michigan State with 14 points and eight rebounds while David Thomas chipped in 16 points and eight boards.

Next up for the Big Ten All-Stars, coached by Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo, is a match against the London Leopards on Sunday afternoon.

Big Ten Men's Basketball All-Star Team Suffers First Defeat

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Big Ten Men's Basketball All-Stars suffered their first defeat on a tour of Europe this afternoon when they dropped at close 86-85 decision to the London Leopards in a game played at Stevenage, England.

Michigan's Jerod Ward paced four double-figure scorers with 24 points, hitting seven-of-15 from the field, including four-of-nine from three-point range. Iowa's Ryan Bowen and a pair of Michigan State players, DuJuan Wiley and David Thomas each scored 10 points with Bowen grabbing 10 a team-best rebounds, the second straight game in which he has paced the squad in caroms.

The Big Ten All-Stars, directed by Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo, now stand 2-1 on their overseas trip, and will travel to France tomorrow to play an opponent to be determined later on in the week. Starting on Thursday (Aug. 14), the Big Ten team will compete in the Flanders Basketball Tournament in Belgium.
