Aug. 17, 1997 Big Ten Men's Basketball All-Star Team Closes out Tour with VictoryEAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Big Ten Men's Basketball All-Stars concluded its six-game European Tour this afternoon with a decisive 89-64 win over the Alvik Basketball Club in the Flanders Tournament held in Charleroi, Belgium. The win left the Big Ten's mark at 3-3. Ryan Bowen of Iowa paced the Big Ten All-Stars with 13 points while grabbing 14 rebounds, the most by any conference player during the tour and his third effort of double-figure rebounding. Bowen connected on four-of-five field goal attempts while converting all five of his free throw opportunities. Michigan State's David Thomas rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Big Ten with 10 points while also registering seven caroms. The Big Ten led, 35-32, at halftime, but shot 57 percent in the second half in pulling away from Alvik. The Big Ten squad shot 50 percent from three-point range (7-of-14) and was paced in that category by Julian Bonner (Northwestern), Neshaun Coleman (Ohio State) and B.J. Carretta (Purdue), all of whom sank a pair of treys. In addition, the Big Ten held a wide 41-28 advantage in the rebounding department.
