Crean Promoted to Associate Head Coach
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State head men's basketball coach Tom Izzo has announced that Tom Crean has recently been promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach.
Crean is entering his third year with the MSU program after serving as associate head coach at the University of Pittsburgh during the 1994-95 season. Prior to his stint with the Panthers, he was an assistant coach at Western Kentucky from 1990-91 through 1993-94.
"Tom is well deserving of this promotion because of his hard work and the amount of responsibilities that he has taken on," said Izzo. "Between his recruiting, practice and administrative duties, he has become a jack-of-all trades and it is this versatility that will make him a great head coach one day. He has already established himself as a strong and viable candidate for a Division I job and I expect that to continue."
Michigan State posted a 17-12 overall record last season and advanced to the second round of the NIT. The Spartans will open their regular season on Monday, November 17, at home against East Tennessee State starting at 7:30 p.m.
