Pauga Named Director Of Basketball Operations

Kevin Pauga, who previously spent eight seasons with the Michigan State men's basketball team, returns to the Spartan program as director of basketball operations. He will assume his new position on July 13. Pauga replaces Richard Bader, who has accepted a position as director of sport operations, where he will have direct involvement with all 25 Spartan sports. Bader had been a member of the Spartan basketball staff for the past nine seasons.

Michigan State To Produce New Television Coaches Shows For 2009-10 Season

Michigan State Athletics, in partnership with FOX Sports Detroit, will produce new television coaches shows for the 2009-10 season."Spartan Football All-Access" will provide fans with an inside look at the Michigan State football program, headlined by extended analysis from head coach Mark Dantonio and former MSU quarterback Jim Miller. The show will also include player profiles and features, as well as the launch of a new "Fans Top 10" segment which will allow viewers to interact with the show. Following the football season, the content will shift from "Spartan Football All-Access" to "Spartan Basketball All-Access" with head coach Tom Izzo.

Goran Suton Drafted By Utah Jazz

Michigan State center Goran Suton was selected by the Utah Jazz in the second round (50th pick overall) of the 2009 NBA Draft at Madison Square Garden in New York. Suton becomes the 12th Spartan drafted to play for Coach Tom Izzo and the 11th player selected since the 2000 NBA Draft.

Shannon Brown Captures NBA Title With Lakers

Former Michigan State guard Shannon Brown has earned an NBA championship ring with the Los Angeles Lakers, as the Lakers defeated the Orlando Magic on Sunday night to win the NBA Finals, 4-1. Throughout the playoffs, Brown was a regular contributor off the Laker bench, averaging 4.9 points and 13.1 minutes in 21 playoff games, shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 48.0 percent from 3-point range. Brown becomes the first Spartan to play for head coach Tom Izzo to win an NBA Championship ring, and the sixth in school history.

Shannon Brown Finds Home In Los Angeles

Former Michigan State Spartan guard Shannon Brown has found an NBA home with the Los Angeles Lakers. Thanks in part to his play during the playoffs, the Lakers have advanced through the Western Conference to the NBA Finals. Brown is averaging 14.4 minutes and 5.7 points in 18 playoff contests, shooting .444 from the field and .480 from 3-point range.

Seniors Participate In Commencement

Three members of the 2008-09 Spartan basketball team participated in spring commencement ceremonies conducted last weekend (May 8-10) on the Michigan State University campus: forward Marquise Gray (family community services), center Goran Suton (retailing) and guard Travis Walton (family community services). Fellow senior Idong Ibok earned his bachelor's degree last May. Since 2000, 32 Spartans have received their undergraduate degrees.

Izzo Delivers First Pitch At Tigers Game

Exactly three weeks after playing in the NCAA Championship game at Ford Field, Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo was across the street at Comerica Park, delivering the ceremonial first pitch prior to Monday's Detroit Tigers-New York Yankees contest. Before a crowd of nearly 30,000, Izzo delivered the pitch to first base coach Andy Van Slyke.

Izzo To Throw Out First Pitch At Tigers Game

Three weeks after leading the Michigan State men's basketball team to the NCAA Championship game at Detroit's Ford Field, Coach Tom Izzo will throw out the honorary first pitch at Monday's Detroit Tigers' game (April 27) against the New York Yankees at Comerica Park. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m., with the first-pitch ceremony taking place shortly before that.

MSU Will Play At UNC In Big Ten/ACC Challenge

The Michigan State men's basketball team will play at North Carolina on Tuesday, Dec. 1 in the 11th-annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The two teams will be meeting for the fourth time in Challenge history, including for the second-straight season. Most recently, the Spartans and Tar Heels met in the 2009 NCAA Championship game at Detroit's Ford Field. Game time and ESPN network designation will be announced at a later date.

Spartans Prepare For Glory

Michigan State will face North Carolina on Monday night in the National Championship game. The Spartans are looking for their third NCAA title in the program's history. MSU advanced to the championship game with an impressive 82-73 win over Connecticut, the Spartans' second straight victory over a No. 1 seed.

Spartans Advance To NCAA Title Game

The Spartans promised their downtrodden state something good, and boy, did they deliver. Raymar Morgan broke out of his late-season slump with 18 points, Kalin Lucas added 21 and the smaller Spartans ran roughshod over Hasheem Thabeet and Connecticut in an 82-73 victory in the Final Four on Saturday night.
