While at Wayne State, Heath helped the program to an overall slate of 70-23 (.752), which included three GLIAC regular-season titles and a berth in the Final Four of the NCAA Division II Tournament in 1992-93.
Heath, 35, started his coaching career in 1987-88 as the assistant varsity and head freshman coach at Lincoln High School in Ypsilanti. He then spent one season as an assistant coach at Hillsdale College and two years at Albion College.
?With efforts both on and off the court, Stan has been doing a fine job since joining the MSU program,? said MSU head coach Tom Izzo. ?He has shown his ability as a solid recruiter and in his ability to relate to our players well.?
A strong recruiter, Heath has been instrumental in MSU?s recruiting classes the past four years.
?Over the past couple years, Stan Heath has established himself as one of, if not the, premier assistant coach in the country,? said Dan Wetzel of HoopsTV.com. ?His relentless recruiting style, proven coaching ability and positive personality have helped Michigan State become a national powerhouse. When he becomes a head coach he is going to make some athletic director look very smart, very soon.?
Heath played basketball at Eastern Michigan University from 1983-87 under Ben Braun (University of California) and earned his bachelor?s degree in social science from EMU in 1988. He also has his master?s degree in sports administration from Wayne State.
Heath?s family includes his wife, Ramona, and sons Jordan, age 8, and Joshua, age 5.
