TEAM NOTES

l MSU improves to 87-22 all-time in season openers, having won 30 of its last 31 season premiers. MSU also moves to 91-18 all-time in home openers. The Spartans haven't lost a home opener since dropping a 74-73 contest to Western Michigan on Dec. 4, 1976. The Spartans are also now 76-11 in season openers at home.

l MSU improves to 72-22 in games played in November, including a 52-3 mark at home.

l The Spartans' 33-point margin of victory was the largest for a season opener since MSU defeated Oakland, 97-61, on Nov. 9, 2000.

l Michigan State also moves to 2-0 all-time against Chicago State. MSU defeated the Cougars, 69-61, on Dec. 16, 2006.

l The Spartans shot 9-of-16 from three-point range, a large improvement from their combined 5-for-31 mark in their pair of exhibition games.

l Michigan State is now 12-1 in season openers under head coach Tom Izzo. The Spartans are also a perfect 13-0 in home openers under Coach Izzo's watch.

l The Spartans held Chicago State to 28.6 percent shooting, which is the lowest percentage for an MSU opponent since IPFW shot 26.5 percent on Dec. 6, 2006.

PLAYER NOTES

l Sophomore forward Raymar Morgan recorded one of his top efforts as a Spartan, notching career highs in points (25), rebounds (15) and field goals (9). The performance was his first career double-double and the 22nd occasion in which Morgan has scored in double digits. MSU is 15-7 when Morgan tallies 10 points or more.

l Senior guard Drew Neitzel handed out eight assists, marking the seventh time in his career he has recorded at least eight helpers. His assists career high is 12, which he achieved on Dec. 30, 2006, against Loyola (Md.), and on Feb. 14, 2006, vs. Michigan.

l Senior center Drew Naymick recorded one blocked shot, giving him 75 career rejections. That mark ties Naymick with Andre Hutson (1997-2001) for fifth on MSU's all-time list.

l Freshman forward Chris Allen scored 13 points, which is tied for the fifth-highest total for a freshman debut. Allen's performance tied Darryl Johnson (1983) and Sam Vincent (1981).

l Another freshman, guard Durrell Summers scored 12 points, which is tied for the eighth-highest output (Quinton Brooks, 1992) for a freshman debut. Summers also grabbed six rebounds, tied for sixth on the freshman debut list with sixth others.
