East Lansing, Mich. - IPFW Head Coach Dane Fife quotes:
"Our team is always going to play hard and come out fighting, but we knew this was going to happen. I think they (Michigan State) came out tired, it's the beginning of the season and they're in good shape but they aren't in great shape yet. I think they were tired coming off the Maui trip. I think we started off well, it took Michigan State a little while to get going but you've got to give our guys credit they came out and played hard."
On being back in the state of Michigan
"It was great to be able to come back to Michigan and coach in front of my family and friends. I consider myself from Indiana, but it was great to come back and be able to coach here."
MSU Head Coach Tom Izzo quotes: "It's never going to get easy. I'm proud of Dan Fife, his team and their effort. I guess to be honest with you, I'm very disappointed in our play. There were some heroic plays, I thought Paul Davis did a monster job. I think Maurice Ager came back, I think Shannon Brown played within himself, but didn't do enough. We didn't get him enough shots, or he didn't find enough shots, and he played 33 minutes. We are going to have to find a way to get it done. The guards, the point guards, we struggled."
On State's play
"The biggest negative by far, and the one that has been haunting us, is that we haven't checked anyone yet. That's going to change. I am very, very disappointed in our defense- guys are shooting three's, guys are driving around us."
"I think you have to give IPFW credit, they hit shots. When shots started going in, they started making shots that I though our defense was good on. I'm not real pleased with what we did and if we play like that Wednesday night we are going to find out the hard way."
