Florida International head coach Sergio Rouco:
On offensive struggles: "We are having a hard time scoring. We don't shoot the ball very well, although we shot it better in the second half. They (Michigan State) are so big inside, they take away all the inside game and on the perimeter they are very athletic. I think they cranked it up a notch, looking at the other games they played."
On the loss of Almonte: "When you lose that kind of player at our level and you're playing a team of this caliber, it's hard to keep the kids going. The beauty is they came out with a little fire in the second half. I'm proud of my kids, they kept fighting."
Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo
Opening statement "It always has to be someone's day and today I thought that it was Maurice (Ager) and Shannon's (Brown) day. Mo and Drew (Neitzel) were both sick this morning and so I don't think that they played as well as expected."
On rebounding and defense "The 14 rebounds that we had tonight is an area that we've been working on with our guards and with Maurice's 14 and Shannon's four we are pleased with the effort. The passing was unselfish tonight; we had 21 assists out of 27 shots and I also thought we defended well. All in all, we had a lot of positives and I was pleased."
On team play...
"I think it helps to get in there and get some reps and to make some mistakes. I did have to pull some guys tonight, but I always say if we are up 60 or down 60 and they make effort related mistakes, they're coming out. There are still a few areas that we need to work on and I think we will continue get better. We have a couple tough games coming up and if we fix those mistakes I think that will get us to where we need to be."
