Brokenborough's basket gave Temple (3-1) a 55-54 edge. After Michigan State failed to score on the following possession, Keaton Sanders made a free throw to give the Owls a 56-54 lead with 41 seconds to go. Michigan State (3-2) had a chance to send the game into overtime, but David Thomas missed two free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining.
