East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State men’s basketball sophomore guard/forward Miles Bridges was named one of 10 national semifinalists competing for the 50th Citizen Naismith Trophy for Men’s College Player of the Year.
Four finalists will be selected from the list of 10 by the Naismith Awards master voting academy. Fans will be able to support their favorite finalist by visiting naismithtrophy.com/vote from March 19-30 to cast their ballot and help decide the winner. The fan component counts for five percent of the vote. On April 1, the 50th Citizen Naismith Trophy will be awarded during the Naismith Awards Brunch at Pear Stable in San Antonio.
Bridges was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten First Team earlier this week. He leads Michigan State, and ranks tied for seventh in the Big Ten, with 16.8 points per game, is second on the team with 6.9 rebounds and third with 2.8 assists per game. He is one of only three players nationally averaging at least 16.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 0.9 blocks per game.
In addition to being one of the 10 finalists for the Citizen Naismith Trophy, Bridges is on the John R. Wooden Award® Late Season Top 20, is one of 10 finalists for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award and is one of 14 players selected to the midseason watch list for the Oscar Robertson Trophy.
Michigan State, ranked No. 2 in the country in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Top 25 polls, have won 12-straight games and are 28-3 overall and posted a 16-2 record in the Big Ten Conference. The Spartans are the No. 1 seed in this week’s Big Ten Tournament and will play the winner of a game between Maryland and Wisconsin on Friday, March 2 at noon at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
