Top-Seeded Michigan State Opens Play in the Big Ten Tournament Friday

East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State's men's basketball team will play in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday, March 2 at noon. The Spartans, the top-seeded team after winning the regular season, will play the winner of a game between No. 8 Maryland and No. 9 Wisconsin.

On the Air
The game will be shown live on the Big Ten Network, with Brian Anderson calling the play-by-play, Jon Crispin serving as the color analyst and Mike Hall on sidelines. The Spartan Sports Network radio call can be heard on one of 38 affiliates and on the web at, with Will Tieman handling the play-by-play, Matt Steigenga serving as the expert color analyst and Dalton Shetler as the studio host. The game can also be heard on Sirius, XM and Internet 84.

• Michigan State has won 12-straight games, the longest active win streak in Division I, and finished the regular season with a 28-3 overall record and won the regular season title outright with a 16-2 league mark. Maryland enters Thursday's Big Ten second round with a 19-12 overall record, including an 8-10 league record, while Wisconsin is 14-17 overall and posted a 7-11 mark in conference.

Last Time Out
Sophomore guard Cassius Winston scored 20 points and led four players in double figures as MSU used a late second half run to pull away from Wisconsin, clinching the outright Big Ten Regular Season title for the Spartans ... MSU led by seven points, 34-27, at the break, but the Badgers rallied back and led 49-47 with 7:18 to play ... Behind a trio of 3-pointers from Winston, MSU went on an 11-2 run to take a 58-51 lead ... Sophomore guard/forward Miles Bridges and freshman forward Jaren Jackson Jr. hit four free throws apiece in the final two minutes to seal the win.

• Michigan State set a school record with 28 regular season wins and this was the eighth regular season title under Head Coach Tom Izzo.
Jaren Jackson Jr. was selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year by the conference's media and coaches ... Jackson was also selected to the All-Big Ten Third Team and was a unanimous selection to the All-Freshman Team ... Jackson is the second straight MSU player to win Big Ten Freshman of the Year, following Miles Bridges in 2017 ... • Sophomore guard/forward Miles Bridges is one of only three players in the country averaging at least 16.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 0.9 blocked shots per game.

• The Spartans are looking to capture their sixth Big Ten Tournament championship, as they are the only Big Ten team with five tournament titles.
• In 20 previous years of the Big Ten Tournament, MSU has a record of 28-15.
• The Spartans won the tournament in 1999, 2000, 2012, 2014 and 2016, and lost in the quarterfinals in 1998, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2017.
